ISOLATION

  • Insulators cannot be discharges by grounding

The second basic concept of the ESD control system involves isolating

components and assemblies during storage or transportation. Isolating

the components or assembly from charged objects, fields and insulators

is the best means of preventing ESD damage from occurring during

storage or transport.

Since grounding will not drain the static charges on insulators, it is

necessary to isolate sensitive components and assemblies from them.

Eliminating common plastics and other types of insulators from the

work, shipping and transport areas is the best way to isolate product

from insulators.

Isolation may also be accomplished by restricting entry into complete

l work areas or work stations. This type of isolation is quite noticeable

since most static safe area have signs making workers aware of these

l areas. Be alert to the symbols and signs which are commonly used to

draw awareness to sensitive areas or assemblies.
